Maple is the western extension of the Burlington core and waterfront. The facades of unique dwellings dating as far back as the late 1800’s coexist with more modern architectural styles, underscoring the eclectic character of the neighbourhood.
Maple is advantageous to the amenities, entertainment and experiences of Burlington’s downtown. The community, and its qualities, are attractive to families, singles, empty nesters and retirees.
Maple is an older neighbourhood, with most detached and attached residences added to the community in the past 20 to 50 years. Late 1800’s and early 1900’s era, one-and-a-half storey, two storey and petite bungalows, full of character and charm, dot mature tree lined streets. Established two storey homes, split levels and bungalows, along with a variety of semi’s and townhouses make up the remainder. As is often the case, many of the middle aged properties have undergone extensive renovation and updates. Maple is rich in high rise condominium choices.
Parks are abundant. The lakeside parks and trails of Beachway Park, the Waterfront Trail and Spencer Smith Park attract visitors in all four seasons. Beachway provides a long sandy beach designed for family fun. Spencer Smith Park plays host to events and festivals throughout the year. Don’t miss the Sound of Music Festival, Ribfest, or the Festival of Lights. Competitive hopefuls or recreational enthusiasts can take in a class or camp at the Maple branch of the Burlington Gymnastics Club. The Burlington Performing Arts Centre or the Art Gallery of Burlington showcase live events and exhibits sure to entertain and inform.
Experience boutique shopping and assorted restaurant cuisine in the nearby downtown business district. Everyday essentials and services can be located along Brant and Fairview Streets. The landmark Mapleview Centre Mall with high end shopping, retail chain stores and dining enjoyment, serves not only the community but points beyond.
If drawn to a neighbourhood by the Lake, the quaintness of downtown, and a wide ranging mix of home ownership possibilities, then Maple may be the spot for you. Outdoor spaces, festivals and sport facilities satisfy recreational quests, while renowned museums and art centres satisfy cultural pursuits. The allure of Maple is undeniable.
The Joseph Brant Museum describes itself as “Burlington’s Community Museum”. The museum was built to commemorate Joseph Brant (1742-1807), a storied Mohawk Chief and British military Captain, as Burlington’s first citizen. The replica of Brant’s homestead features permanent galleries, exhibitions and educational programs. This museum and the history lessons it offers, is not to be missed.
