Some of North Oakville’s most interesting and diverse modern architectural styles can be found throughout River Oaks. Development began in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. Traditional detached premises with the familiar attached garage hug Upper Middle Road while two storey carriage style homes, many with a Georgian facade, are found in the vicinity of River Glen Boulevard. Townhouses of varying age run the length of Munn’s Avenue. The more recent Oak Park district with detached and semi-detached homes and communal back lanes, is modelled after the concept of a self contained European Village. Newer still, are the stacked towns and high rise condominiums. The neighbourhood preference for a back-of-the-property detached garage creates cozy landscaped courtyards and visually pleasing streetscapes.
The River Oaks Community Centre is the heartbeat of the neighbourhood with a full range of recreational and sports facilities, ice rinks, fitness programs, and instructional classes. Trails are picturesque and filled with flora and fauna. Green spaces and parks form the backdrop for family outings, games, and events.
The Oak Park Smart Centre, with box and chain stores, restaurants, retail and professional services provides the everyday necessities for River Oaks residents, and beyond. Trafalgar Road is flanked by strip malls, grocers, fast food franchises, and services. If it can’t be found along Trafalgar Road – it likely doesn’t exist. Several community plazas supply the basics. To the west, the RioCan Centre on the corner of Neyagawa and Dundas is a popular stop for grocery, dining, and retail shopping.
Upscale River Oaks is an Oakville pocket of assorted domiciles, lifestyles, and interests. Singles and couples are drawn to the low maintenance and more affordable condominiums and townhomes while families appreciate the excellent schools, sporting, and recreational facilities. Like a village, residents of all ages live and thrive in this never boring or sleepy neighbourhood of River Oaks.
